I’m thrilled to announce my solo album is now available! Nine songs from the first twenty years of a love affair with Balkan music, performed a cappella and with accordion accompaniment.

The album will be available for digital download on CD Baby starting tomorrow, and the physical copies will be there shortly, but for now, if you’d like to purchase the albums from me directly, that’s the best way.

hello everyone!
i’m thrilled to be able to share the full details of my performances with Miléna Kartowski in France and Belgium.

We have created a program of Traditional Yiddish and Romani songs, mostly a cappella and focused on women’s perspectives, that we will be performing in Paris (3/7, 3/9, 3/13), Nancy (3/10), and Brussels (3/12).

Our performance on the 7th of March will be at the Campement Rom de Ris Orangis, one of the largest encampments of Roma around Paris. We will be singing there around 17h/5pm. Here is the information for Ris Orangis: http://perou-risorangis.blogspot.fr

On the 9th, we’ll be performing on a peniche on the river in Paris. The Anako Peniche is a beautiful venue that is focusing on world musical traditions for this season in particular. That concert starts at 20h/8pm.

The 10th of March brings us to Nancy, for a performance at the Association Culturelle Juivre (Jewish Cultural Association) at 17h/5pm. Please note that the use of the term “tziganes” was the editorial choice of the venue.

On March 12th, Miléna and I will give a vocal workshop in Brussels at the Maison du Peuple from 12h to 14h, in which we’ll teach a Yiddish and a Romani song, and that evening at 20h we will perform at the Maison du Peuple. Tickets are selling very quickly for this concert, in an incredible historic Art Deco theater.

Dans un récital à capella de chants de femmes traditionnels Yiddish et Roms

C’est de leur rencontre à NYC à l’automne 2011

Que naît ce duo vocal, exigeant, puissant et engagé.

Deux femmes, deux voix, deux univers forts

qui décident de traverser les chants traditionnels de femmes à travers le monde, de leur redonner vie et de créer par eux un nouveau souffle, un nouveau cri à l’aune d’aujourd’hui.

Premier Chapitre–Chants Yiddish et Roms:

Le peuple Rom et le peuple Juif,
Frères de destin et de musique.
Par la voix des femmes l’histoire se raconte.

« Lorsque les gens se réunissent, ils chantent.

Ceci est une vérité et ce depuis toujours.

La voix humaine, parfois accompagnée de percussions, est au centre des rituels et des célébrations à travers le monde. Lorsque la voix, pure, s’élève, elle se saisit du langage et infuse les mots du large spectre de l’émotion humaine. Joie, nostalgie, désespoir, amour, violence… Tous ces sentiments sont au cœur des chants. Le travail de Miléna Kartowski et de Eva Salina Primack cherche à reconnaître, consacrer et étendre la présence des chants au sein de deux riches traditions, Yiddish et Rom, qui à travers l’exode, le combat, la force de vie profonde et le courage ont su donné corps à chaque mot et chaque note au cœur des chants. Par leur amour, dévouement et connaissance de la musique traditionnelle, elles honorent ces deux cultures, mettant en lumière leur histoire partagée, leurs affinités musicales et le rôle des femmes. Ainsi, Miléna et Eva mêlent leurs voix puissantes, expressives et sensibles afin de réinsuffler vie et créativité à ces vieux chants de femmes aujourd’hui oubliés. »

I’m thrilled that my new band will be making our APAP debut on January 11th at the 2nd annual Maqam Fest, co-produced by Alwan for the Arts and Center for Traditional Music and Dance.

We’ll be performing at 8:25pm.

The line-up for the evening is:

Adam Good: Guitar/Çumbuş/Tambura
Ron Caswell: Tuba
Chris Stromquist: Percussion.

Maqam Fest will most likely sell out–there’s good reason–it’s an incredible lineup, and I’m thrilled and honored to be part of it.

IF you can’t get in to Maqam Fest…Later that night, at 1am, we’ll be performing at DROM as part of a benefit for Turkish Romani Clarinet Legend Selim Sesler.

I spent the month of September traveling and creating new music with many inspiring and inspired young musicians from all over the world. My life was changed by the experience and I am beyond grateful to have taken part in this ground-breaking program.

Check out my Introduction to Balkan Singing class at Mendocino Balkan Music and Dance Camp, 2012. This is their performance from the Student Concert on the last day of camp. These fine folks were up and working at 9:30 am every morning with me, regardless of the previous evenings’ festivities.

The song is “Zadade se, Stujane bre”, which is a traditional antiphonal diaphonic Bulgarian song that I learned from Ethel Raim.

Carnegie Hall featured a short and sweet piece on their blog about the Musical Explorers Program, which I was proud and thrilled to be a part of; I was one of three featured artists (alongside Emeline Michel, an incredible Haitian singer, and The Wiyos, a wonderful American roots music group) in the concert series that ran last week.  Through the curriculum we developed together, 5000 children in New York City schools learned Albanian and Bulgarian songs, and the feeling of 500 kids singing along with you in each show is beyond description.  I think elation is the closest thing I can find to articulate the energy I felt from those kids, and I feel such gratitude to their dedicated teachers who helped them learn the rhythms and the songs.  Thanks also to my dear friends and colleagues Ariadne Greif, Pera (Peter) Stan and Yuliyan Yordanov.
